Bio
Andrew teaches all levels of saxophone as well as beginner and intermediate flute, clarinet, oboe, recorder, and ocarina. His lessons emphasize strong fundamentals, music reading, ear training, and developing the self-sufficiency students need to explore the music they enjoy. While rooted in classical and concert band repertoire, Andrew also introduces jazz concepts for interested students. He tailors instruction to each student’s goals, whether preparing for honor band auditions, recitals, school performances, or playing their favorite songs. Andrew holds a Bachelor’s degree in Instrumental Music Education from Appalachian State University and studied saxophone under Dr. Scott Kallestad. He has taught high school band in eastern North Carolina where his bands earned superior ratings. His students have earned placement in All-District, All-State, and Governor's School honor bands.
Andrew is a native of Kernersville, North Carolina and now lives in Cary with his wife, Caroline, and son, Luke. Andrew plays guitar and bass at home and enjoys listening to progressive metal. He is an avid home cook and particularly enjoys smoking pork BBQ and stir fries. Andrew plays disc golf in his free time at the excellent courses in the Triangle area and watches the Carolina Panthers, Charlotte Hornets, Carolina Hurricanes, Duke Blue Devils and App State Mountaineers.
